Creating a Supportive Future for Young Talents: The Importance of Guidance and Critical Support in Sports Development
Yesterday I went to Kavanoor, a town in Malappuram district, to watch a baby league football match conducted by AFDM (association for football development Malappuram). I was really impressed to see how the kids who were of the under-12 age group, played football extraordinarily well. I could see that all the players were having fun, they were competitive and performance-oriented and it was evident that this was just the beginning of what these young talents were capable of.
In the meantime during the match, I was sitting near a parent of one of the players who was cheering for his kid and I casually said to him "your kid is a good player sir " to that he responded, yeah I know he is one hell of a player and he never backs down from a fight, in fact, they all carry that fire within them
and always give their best which is exactly what you are seeing now.
Guidance and critical support agents are the two most important factors in developing a supporting future for these young lads
and I was sure that this parent was ready to give them both. So out of curiosity, I asked him "how are you planning to nurture his talent?"
Not to my astonishment, he was clueless. He agreed that his kid has an extraordinary talent but was not sure whether he would rely on soccer to build a career. Also, he was totally confused about what to be done if his son actually wanted to be a professional player.
On one hand, it is absolutely amazing to see how these academies push their players each day to be the best out there. The academy where I went to watch the match was KASCO academy run by Imdad KP who is the technical director of the academy. Hat’s off to people like Imdad who are passing on the torch to make sure that more talented players are nurtured from scratch. One thing is for sure these academies act as a pillar to these players to all extent but somehow the players slow down when the support from the parents, the guidance, and the path to becoming a successful player starts to get weakened and narrowed down. This is where things change.
So I told the parent, what if we could actually help your kid pursue his passion for being a professional player. He looked at me and asked me “who are you ?” and then I explained. I made it pretty clear that our company is here to create an ecosystem in sports that generates lots of opportunities for different stakeholders of sports and nurtures the dreams of sports aspirants all the while assessing and therefore improving the scope of their capacity and ability. So then the parent was like `` you are here to change the system to which I replied: “ yes we are here to bring the change and by bringing the change we can create a revolution in the sports domain”. Listening to that he was overwhelmed with joy in finding out that the blurred vision of his son’s future was not so blurred after all.
